First Lady Linda Kerr AdkinsMrs. Linda Kerr Adkins, APR, is a native Memphian and a graduate of Mitchell High School.  She received her Bachelors of Arts Degree, graduating cum laude from the University of Memphis in 1976, majoring in Journalism, where she was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America; The Society of Professional Journalists (Sigma Delta Chi) and reporter and contributing writer on the University of Memphis Newsletter, The Statesman.  Mrs. Adkins attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1990 and 1994 in its Professional Program series, studying Communications and Management respectively.

From 1976-1988, Mrs. Adkins served as Director of Public Relations and Legislative Affairs for the Memphis Housing Authority where she was responsible for creating publications for its 30,000 residents and 400 employees, while serving as liaison between local, state and national political groups and organizations.

Active in her church and significantly involved in children’s and family issues within the community, Mrs. Adkins served as Memphis’ representative for the White House Conference on Families, appointed by former Tennessee Governor Lamar Alexander.  In 1992, she was key in establishing Carter G. Woodson Child Development Center, a day care and school at Greater Imani Church, 1000 S. Cooper Street,  where she served as Administrator for twelve (12) years.

Mrs. Adkins is a member of the 1988 class of Leadership Memphis.  She is a world traveler, having journeyed to five of the seven continents and she is fluent in French.  She is a past Program Director for Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Memphis Chapter, where her key concentration was promoting an active leadership program, building character and leadership qualities among our youth.  Mrs. Adkins is a former Board Member of the Memphis Academy of Sciences and Engineering (MASE), Tennessee’s first Charter School. She is currently a Member of the Board of the Falling Creek Homeowners Association.

 A writer of poetry, Mrs. Adkins has been published in the Library of Congress’ “Soaring with the Wind.”  Holding Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) by the Public Relations Society of America, Mrs. Adkins is President of Adkins and Associates Public Relations and Advertising Agency, which she established in 1987.  Mrs. Adkins is “Your Travel Concierge,” owner of Adkins and Associates Travel Agency, accredited by the International Airlines Travel Agent Network (IATAN). Mrs. Adkins is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the nation’s first sorority established by African American women in 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C.  She is also delighted to hold membership in AKA’s Phi Lambda Omega Graduate ChapterAdkins Family in Memphis which implements programs of service, impacting countless lives in such key areas as Education, Health, the Family and Economics.

Linda Kerr Adkins is the wife of Dr. Bill Adkins, Apostle and Pastor of Greater Imani Church and Christian Center and the mother of four: Tai, Ronne’, (Dr. Ronne’ Adkins, PhD), Christopher and William, III.  She and her husband are proud of their daughter-in-law, Danielle (Ronne’) and grandsons, Zachary Ronne’ and Jonathan Alexander Adkins.
